Analysis of Light

After a lecture with Nigel we had to find two images and analyse the light in them.

My first image is a great example of directional light, light which is coming from one direction. In this image, the light is natural and is coming in from a doorway behind the girl. Because of this being natural light, the side or room which is being lit is the side by the door. This means the back of the girl is being lit, alongside her face. This draws the viewers eye directly to her. The other side of the room is slightly lit, however is much darker. The use of the light behind the girl has been used to create reflections on the tabletop as well.

This next image also uses natural light but is a great example of how it interacts with objects. The whole image is lit with natural light, however there is a key light source in the centre of the image. This light source has been used to create a light effect on the umbrellas, creating a warm glow through the material. The light in the centre also creates reflections in the water. This acts as a focal point on the painting. There is also artificial light in the image through the rock and roll sign and lights on buildings. These sources aren't as strong as the others, but create an overall realistic image.
